Voyages of the Heart

Voyages of the Heart was a co-commission with Turner Sims, Southampton, led by world-renown cellist and kora virtuoso, Tunde Jegede.

 

The piece involved 25 musicians (22 local) from a range of backgrounds and disciplines including Gospel singers; an operatic choir; a Gaelic, an Indian classical, soul, reggae and rap singers. Instruments included: a string quartet, Irish folk violin and flute, guitar, Sitar, Oud, Tabla, drums and bass. The piece beautifully blended these varied styles to create a multi-layered musical reflecting Southampton’s multicultural population. Free-to-use legacy materials for schools and choirs include 20 pieces from the show.
